July is an extra special month for us as it is when the Nafplion Music Festival takes place, offering magical summer performances by both Greek and international artists. Now in its 27th year, the festival kicks off from June 29th to July 8th this year and music fans should definitely head down to the town for the week in order to enjoy the rich variety of concerts going on in some spectacular venues.
There will be some highly respected musicians taking to the stage this year to perform in front of audiences made up of both residents and visitors. Don’t miss the opening event that will take place in the historic Syntagma Square on Friday, June 9th, when the Greek Navy Band will be playing alongside well known opera singers. Beethoven, Chopin and Debussy are on the agenda on Wednesday 4th July in the Vouleftikon Building, once home to the first Hellenic Parliament, with a splendid piano recital by the amazing Jean Muller. An exceptional musical performance in 16 languages can be enjoyed on Friday July 6th in St. George Square as the Railway Carriage Theatre Group present ‘Mare Nostrum’; a medley of much-loved songs from countries around the Mediterranean. Several of the performances have been planned to take place in the impressive Palamidi Fortress, the venetian castle overlooking the town, which is a truly atmospheric venue for such occasions.
The aim of the festival is to put Nafplion in the spotlight as a centre for classical music and is organised by the Phormigx Concert Agency in collaboration with the Municipality of Nafplion and its Mayor, Dimitris Kostouros under the artistic direction of Janis Vakarelis.
You can get a full programme of the Festival events here and we will be more than happy to help you with ticket purchase for the performances.
